Questions we hear from South Charlotte families
After a decade of moving Ballantyne, SouthPark, Fort Mill and everywhere in between, the same questions come up before almost every job. Here are honest answers from me and my office. If yours isn’t here, call us or request a free quote and we’ll walk through it.

Are you a moving company?
Yes — Marvin's United Movers is a fully licensed and insured Greater Charlotte moving company running our own trucks and uniformed crews, with an NCUC household-goods certificate and US DOT and MC authority.
How does your flat-rate pricing work?
We walk your home or do a detailed virtual survey, then lock a single flat price in writing before the truck rolls. That binding number covers the labor, the truck, the blankets, dollies and shrink-wrap, and the drive time. For smaller or open-ended jobs we also offer straight hourly — two movers and a truck at $149 an hour, three movers and a truck at $199 an hour — but most South Charlotte families choose the written flat rate so there are no hourly surprises on the sidewalk.
Which areas do you serve?
Ballantyne is home base, and we work all of South Charlotte — Pineville, Matthews, Mint Hill, SouthPark and uptown. We run the I-485 loop out to Waxhaw, Weddington, Marvin and the Union County estate homes, and we cross I-77 over the state line into Fort Mill, Tega Cay and Rock Hill, SC. If you're inside the Charlotte metro on either side of the NC/SC line, we cover you.
Do you require a deposit to book?
We take a small, refundable deposit to hold your date on the truck board, and it comes straight off your final bill. We never ask for large cash up front — that's a red flag in this business, and it's not how we run. Danielle in our office sends you a written confirmation with your locked rate and your reserved crew before you owe anything else.
How is my stuff insured during the move?
Every move includes released-value protection at $0.60 per pound at no extra charge, and you can upgrade to full-value protection for high-end items like pianos, antiques and home-gym equipment. Because we hold interstate authority, our shipments carry up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage. We carry our own liability and cargo insurance, and we'll issue a certificate of insurance for your HOA, gated community or high-rise building management on request.
Can you pack everything for us?
Absolutely. Our full-service packing crew can box your entire home or just the breakables — kitchens, wine rooms, art, china cabinets and the bonus-room electronics. We bring our own paper, boxes and custom crating for fragile pieces, and we can unpack and haul off the boxes at the new place so you're not living in a cardboard maze for a week.
Do you offer storage if my closing dates don't line up?
Yes. Closing-date gaps are common around here, especially with new construction down in Fort Mill and Tega Cay. We offer clean, secured short-term storage and handle the load-out and re-delivery ourselves, so the same crew that packed your home brings it back out — no second company, no extra handling of your things.
Do you handle pianos, safes and other heavy specialty items?
We do, and it's one of the things Ballantyne hires us for most. Our crew chief Reggie leads our piano and specialty team — uprights, baby grands, gun safes, pool tables, marble tops and home-gym rigs. We use the right boards, straps, skates and crating, and we plan the long driveways and estate stairs in advance so nothing gets improvised on move day.
Do you do long-distance moves or just local?
Both, and we drive the long hauls ourselves with our own trucks and crews — no transfer to a strange driver halfway. We run regular lanes from Charlotte to Atlanta, Raleigh, Greensboro, Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, Asheville, Wilmington, Nashville, Washington DC, Jacksonville and Richmond. The crew that loads your home is the crew that unloads it on the other end.
How far ahead should I book my move?
For a weekend or month-end date in spring or summer — our busiest stretch in the Piedmont — two to four weeks ahead is ideal to get your first-choice crew. Midweek and off-season dates we can often book on shorter notice. Either way, the sooner you lock your written flat rate, the sooner your date is reserved on our truck board.
